ActSmart is a business support organisation for specialist retailers, supply partners and trade associations and provides a range of benefits for its members and associate partners. Its ‘Take it Outdoors’ retail finance package is specifically aimed at outdoor suppliers and the retail trade and the OIA recognises the services offered by ActSmart and pledges to work closely to help support and promote its services for mutual benefit.
In Kind Direct
In February 2018, the OIA announced a new partnership with leading product donation charity In Kind Direct in a bid to tackle waste and deliver high social impact. In Kind Direct distributes new consumer products donated by some of the UK’s best known manufacturers and retailers to charities working in the UK and abroad.
The OIA announced a partnership with Ordnance Survey (OS) in 2016, which has resulted in all elements of the Britain on Foot (BoF) campaign transferred to the OS #GetOutside platform. The move is designed to help the UK outdoor industry reach an even wider audience with positive messages about the benefits of outdoor activities.
Outdoor Military Show
The brainchild of Exeter based Brigantes Consulting and led by ex-marine Matt Williams, the Outdoor Military Show is an annual trade show event which brings together an exclusive collection of outdoor brands which are keen to sell equipment, clothing and footwear directly into the military. The OIA embraces and supports the show, will help to promote it to members and will benefit directly from its success.
Outdoor Trade Show
In a move to further embrace the extraordinary work of the Outdoor Industries Association (OIA) and become more representative of the whole trade, OTS gifted the trade association a share of the show’s ownership in 2016.

Sports & Outdoor Think Tank
Following 20 years of operating separately, the ‘Sports Trade Think Tank’ and the ‘Outdoor Think Tank’ events haven recently been merged, now working jointly with the OIA on the development and promotion of future events to members. These events are known under as ‘Sports and Outdoor Think Tank, in association with the OIA’.
We joined OIA following the outstanding OIA conference, which was one of those events that anyone with any interest in the outdoor industry would want to attend and be part of. We were enormously impressed by the vibrancy and atmosphere.
The OIA’s annual conference has quickly developed into an essential event on the trade calendar. The international speakers, workshops and networking elements are all of the highest standard and the social side of the conference is also really fun!
By coming together, we have become a really strong voice in the development of the Government’s new sporting strategy.
The industry is not just about the big guys, we need to represent the rank and file of our industry because the independent retailer is absolutely essential for the survival of our business.
