National Outdoor Centre, Plas y Brenin, are pleased to announce that subject to government guidance, they intend to re-open their residential centre from Saturday 8th August, allowing individuals across the UK to enjoy an action-packed staycation in the heart of Snowdonia.
This summer, upgrade your adventure skills through a range of residential courses across a variety of disciplines including the following in August: Mountain Skills, Introduction to Sea Kayaking, Advanced Scrambling and Introduction to Canoeing.
Guests will be able to join Plas y Brenin the night before their course starts as usual, however extensive adjustments to the course delivery and centre operations are being made, to ensure the safety of all guests.
Mountain Skills | 8th – 9th August
If you want to make the move from hillwalking to mountaineering, this two day Mountain Skills course will help you progress. Push yourself to walk on steeper, remoter or more mountainous terrain as your instructor introduces you to the new considerations you’ll have to take into account when walking on British and Irish mountains.
Introduction to Sea Kayaking | 15th – 16th August
We’ll help you to learn the basics of sea kayak handling as well as developing your skills and ability to make appropriate decisions for an enjoyable and safe day out on the sea. Gain confidence as you plan and undertake journeys on the sea in suitable conditions to fit your level of ability.
Advanced Scrambling | 22nd – 23rd August
If you are a hillwalker who enjoys being in the mountains but wants to reach some of the trickier parts or, if you are a climber and you want to see how we how to manage rope systems on scrambling terrain this is the course for you. We’ll undertake some of the higher grade scrambles in the UK’s best scrambling location. Our highly experienced and qualified instructors will look after you well and teach you the skills you need.
Introduction to Canoeing | 24th – 28th August
On our Introduction to Canoeing course you’ll cover all of the basics of handling an open canoe on solo journeys and as part of a tandem crew during this five-day course. All of your kit hire is included, and on the course you’ll cover proper kit use. What’s more, you’ll consolidate your new-found skills against the fantastic backdrop of North Wales estuaries, tranquil rivers and simple white water.
