La Sportiva’s Black Friday Sales Fund Conservation

For the third year in a row, Italian technical footwear, clothing and accessories brand La Sportiva have used its sales during the ‘Black Friday’ weekend to support nature conservation. Generously donating 20% of the weekend’s income to the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA), La Sportiva has been able to boost the funds available to the Association’s conservation projects.

EOCA was delighted when its member La Sportiva took the initiative to raise extra funds for the Association to spend on conservation during 2017 and then again in 2018 and 2019. In total, a donation of €4400 for the Association was raised through the fundraising activity in 2019, 100% of which the Association will put into the conservation projects it supports during 2020. The cheque was handed to EOCA at ISPO 2020 in Munich. The projects it will support will conserve threatened landscapes, habitats and species, and will also have a clear link to the outdoor enthusiast.

Catherine Savidge, Joint General Manager of EOCA said “We very much value our partnership with La Sportiva. The novel ways in which they find to support EOCA throughout the year really help boost the conservation actions we can support around the world and also the awareness of important conservation issues.”

“In a weekend where most of the brands push sales with aggressive discounts, for the third year in a row, we decided to support EOCA and make our fans part of a positive change, says Francesco Trenti, La Sportiva E-commerce Manager. “In the last few years, the landscape around us has changed a lot, due to global warming. It is our responsibility, as a brand leader in the outdoor market, to encourage people and customers to be more responsible.

The Black Friday event was a perfect occasion to spread the message and give our community the possibility to support EOCA’s Plastic Free: Mountain to Sea project. The long term partnership with EOCA and the more recent “1% for the Planet” certification are just two of the many activities that testify to the commitment of the La Sportiva company towards planet earth.”

About EOCA

The European Outdoor Conservation Association is an initiative from the European outdoor industry with the objective of protecting the wild areas it cares so passionately about.

Designed to harness the incredible power of the outdoor industry and to raise money to donate to grassroots conservation groups, the European Outdoor Conservation Association is funded by membership and other fundraising activities within the outdoor industry. 100% of membership fees go to the support of projects. Membership is open to anyone that can demonstrate an involvement in the European outdoor industry.

Since January 2015, a select group of ‘Sustaining Members’ have pledged their support to EOCA by committing to fund the sustainable growth of the organisation with an extra €10,000 per year, over and above their annual membership fee. This money finances the running of the Association and supports its sustainable growth.

The seven EOCA Sustaining Members are OutDoor (Messe Friedrichshafen), Pertex, KEEN Footwear, Nikwax, ISPO (Messe München), Patagonia and the European Outdoor Group (EOG), which is also the Founder Member of the Association.
