After three years working at the Brewing Research Foundation followed by a Botany Degree and a six month expedition to Greenland after leaving university. Hamish started in the outdoor business on the shop floor at Climber and Rambler in Betwys-y-Coed. This was followed by a long career at Field and Trek where he moved up through the ranks to Buying Director. He then moved to Mountain Equipment and became Brand Director in 2005.
Hamish has been a member of the OIA Board of Directors since March 2013, as well as chairman of the European Outdoor Group’s Sleeping Bag Committee. He is a member of the John Muir Trust and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. As you would expect he is keen on getting outdoors and is at his happiest at the top of a Scottish mountain – preferably Ben Sgritheal – watching the sun go down after a day’s Munro bashing.
