MOUNTAIN TRAINING THANKS OIA MEMBERS

Expert Webinars to Course Providers and Directors

Mountain Training, the awarding body for skills courses and qualifications in walking, climbing and mountaineering (www.mountain-training.org) would like to express thanks to OIA members for their recent and ongoing support during lockdown.

To support Course Providers and Directors, Mountain Training with OIA members have been running online webinars on a diverse array of subjects delivered by experts from the outdoor sector. The weekly sessions which have proved extremely popular include expert advice, tips, recommendations, product knowledge and live Q&A – training opportunities appreciated by both attendees and those presenting.

Contributors such as Mike Vassar at Nikwax, (who kicked off the series) found the process of webinar presentation useful for his sales team – adapting traditional techniques for online audiences:

‘’We know that moving forward webinars will play an increasingly important part in communicating detailed information and delivering training about Nikwax, which up until recently, has predominantly happened in person. Presenting to the knowledgeable Mountain Training audience on the broader topic of aftercare, beyond simply cleaning and reproofing a jacket, enabled us to transfer well practiced face to face skills to the now essential digital arena. We are looking at how we can deliver more webinars and online training sessions in the future by Zoom.”

OIA members have taken advantage of opportunities to broaden their knowledge base, engage outdoor professionals re: new and existing techniques, services and products whilst triggering new ideas.

  • In addition to OIA members’ input, course providers have shared many insights, 3 examples being;
    Glenmore Lodge – good practice for decision making and safety in outdoor environments.
    The Institute for Outdoor Learning – timely and topical interventions for mental health and wellbeing.
    Girlguiding – ways of increasing and enhancing effective female engagement.

Mountain Training thank the organisations who have generously donated their time during these challenging times. The four months of webinars concludes in August.

Mountain Training welcomes partnerships with OIA members and are keen to explore ways to support the industry in the future. Contact cressida@mountain-training.org to exchange ideas and discuss further.
