The OIA’s national lobbying efforts stepped up significantly this week. Recently, OIA chief executive Andrew Denton, along with Dave Turnbull of the BMC, met with the All Party Parliamentary Group on Mountaineering (and all things outdoor activity related), with a view to improving the position of the outdoors on the national political agenda. That meeting led to an exchange in the House of Commons yesterday, as outlined in this image from Hansard.
It was a small, but significant step, in developing a closer working relationship between the OIA and government stakeholders in tourism, health and sport, with the aim of promoting increased outdoor participation among the UK population. Andrew will be presenting the early ideas behind this project at the OIA conference in March, by which time the discussions with the relevant people in Westminster will have progressed further.
