“Whilst there’s still a lot of doom and gloom around at the moment, it was great to be in a room full of people who are all thinking really positively about the future” Geraldine Reeve, Group Show Director – The Outdoors Show
Last week saw one of the largest gatherings of senior executives from right across the outdoor industries as nearly 150 delegates joined together to pack out the stunning HF Holiday's Newfield Hall in Yorkshire for the annual OIA AGM and Conference, sponsored by Pertex.
Delegates were addressed by four influential keynote speakers; Peter Metcalf, CEO/President of Black Diamond Equipment; Flori Schuster, Owner and Rainer Angstl, CEO of leading European retailer, Sport Schuster of Munich; and Adam Chester, head of UK macroeconomic research in the Lloyds Wholesale Market Division, and managing editor of The Economics Journal; Doug Gurr, Vice President of Hard Goods UK for Amazon.
Delegates also had the opportunity to attend one of four interactive seminars on offer during the course of the conference: Scandinavia – lands of opportunity, hosted by the Scandinavian Outdoor Group; Effective social media, hosted by HF Holidays; Retailing and the law, hosted by Eversheds; Britain on Foot – everyone is walking about it, a campaign update and workshop hosted by the OIA.
Following a short AGM where Steve Newlands was appointed the new Chair of the OIA Board of Directors and Brian Smith, Vice Chairman detailed what has been a hugely successful year for the OIA with a membership increasing from 98 to 191 organisations.
All in all the conference was a huge success with many delegates leaving feeling enthused about the future of the industry and the work the OIA is doing on their behalf and we for one are looking forward to making next year's conference even bigger and better.
A more detailed report from the conference and the amazing feedback we have received will follow, but in the meantime OIA member's can access the available AGM, keynote and workshop presentations in their members section of the website here. (simply login using your membership details, navigate to the “Resource” section and they are located in “Articles”)
