Claire Carter


Claire is well known in the industry, graduating with distinction with an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia in 2010 and is now a writer and freelance creative consultant in the outdoor industry. Having worked previously with bodies such as The National Trust and British Mountaineering Council and with event organisers at The Kendal Mountain Festival and Sheffield Adventure Film Festival, she also moderated at the European Outdoor Summit event in Sheffield in 2015 and runs independent mountain arts and literary events.

Claire co-directed her own Award winning film in 2015, ‘Operation Moffat, a BMC film production which went on to win 21 international festival awards, was selected for the Banff and Telluride Worldwide tours, and was bought by Red Bull TV. She is a contributor to outdoor publications, most recently a feature writer for Alpinist Magazine, and is co-editor of a new anthology of women’s adventure writing ‘Waymaking’ to be published by Vertebrate in 2018.

Claire sits on the BMC Women’s Development Group and has produced and hosted the Women In Adventure event for the last three years.

In her spare time, Claire is a committed climber and runner and enjoys ski touring when the opportunity arises.
